Page counts shift between editions, so treat the numbers below as close estimates. What doesn't shift: each of these has survived decades, and in three cases millennia, at a length modern publishing would call impossible.

Short book, or short sitting?
People searching for short books usually want one of two different things: a complete story in one evening, or a reading life that fits into small daily gaps. The list above serves the first.
